Prolink Celebrates Respiratory Care Week 2022

October 21, 2022

Prolink is proud to shine a spotlight on our Respiratory Care team members as we celebrate National Respiratory Care Week from October 23-29, 2022.

What is Respiratory Care?

According to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), respiratory care is the healthcare discipline that specializes in the promotion of optimum cardiopulmonary function and health and wellness.

Respiratory Care Practitioners rely on a range of education and specialties to best serve their patients. Career options can include becoming a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), and RRTs may specialize in sleep disorders (RRT-SDS) or adult critical care (RRT-ACCS). Other options include designations as Respiratory Therapists (RT), Registered Pulmonary Function Technologists (RPFT), and Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialists (NPS).

These practitioners routinely diagnose, manage, and work to reduce or control breathing disorders and illnesses that affect the lungs, such as asthma or COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). They help assess patients and recommend changes in the approach to their care.

Lessons from the Front Lines

Jonathan Rogel had served as a Respiratory Therapist for seven years when he made the decision to transition out of healthcare and into cybersecurity. Then, Covid-19 changed the world as we knew it, and Jonathan felt called to help.

"I had a very sought-after skillset, and I went to New York back in March 2020," he explained, traveling from Utah to what was one of the most-impacted cities at the time. "It was a war zone when I first got there — unlike anything I had ever experienced."

After his time on the front lines, Jonathan realized that a career in cybersecurity was not where he was meant to be. Today, he serves as a Senior Recruiter with Prolink and feels fortunate to have that experience with traveling to relate to the talent he works with every day.

"Now when I recruit with Prolink, I feel that I have that first-hand knowledge on how to communicate with my nurses — to recognize what their needs are and what is most important to them. It’s been a blessing to use my experience with traveling to help the nurses here at Prolink," Jonathan said.

Looking For A Change?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of respiratory therapists is projected to grow 14% by 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations, with about 9,400 openings projected each year. Review our Respiratory Therapy openings here.
