McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.

Duration: August 2022 - May 2023

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Participate in monthly professional development meetings with the Valpo Director of Athletics.
    • The meetings with the Director of Athletics will cover a range of topics with themes focused on 1) performing your job at a championship level, 2) navigating the collegiate athletics landscape, 3) identifying professional champions and advocates, and 4) goal setting and developing resiliency in an ever-changing profession.
  • Work with the Director of Ticketing and Promotions in the athletic department to provide leadership and strategic direction for the implementation of athletics marketing and promotions initiatives including overseeing the fan experience on game days.
  • Develop messaging and marketing strategies that align with department goals and help coordinate community engagement events and activities.
  • Work with the Director of Ticketing and Promotions in the athletics department to submit a marketing and promotions analysis and recommendations report to be submitted to the Director of Athletics.
  • Develop and implement marketing and sales plans in coordination with the athletics communications staff.
  • Work with the Director of Ticketing and Promotions in the athletics department to manage marketing and advertising materials for various sporting events and activities.
  • Secure and oversee coordination of game day music and entertainment.

Must adhere to all Valparaiso University, Missouri Valley Conference & NCAA rules and regulations.
