McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.

The Future Leader will have the opportunity to engage with staff in a wide variety of events, activities, and projects throughout the athletic department and will gain valuable insight into how each unit contributes to the overall success of our athletics department.  The Future Leader will attend meetings with the Director of Athletics and other athletic administrators, observing the ways in which internal and external communication and decision-making impact the department.  The Future Leader will also have the opportunity to be involved in the department's Diversity and Inclusion activities for staff, coaches, and Student-Athletes, which will include regular engagement with the Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA) and Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).  

Duration: August 2022 - May 2023

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

Marketing/Fan Engagement

  • Develop and implement marketing plans with a focus on increasing attendance and fan engagement
  • Learn all aspects of gameday event production and gameday promotions
  • Create messaging to engage students
  • Create and execute graphics to be utilized in both social and email campaigns
  • Managing day-to-day office responsibilities related to event planning to execute sponsorship elements

Ticketing

  • Shadow, learn, and provide feedback on sale strategies for four (4) ticketed sports
  • Assist on all ticketing aspects, which includes both sales and service
  • Complete sales training with our sales team

Facilities

  • Complete facility training
  • Manage and prepare athletic venues for events
  • Maintain venue cleanliness and readiness, “turn-over” event space

Must adhere to all University of Cincinnati, American Athletic Conference / Big 12 Conference (2023) & NCAA rules and regulations.
