McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.

Duration: August 2022 - July 2023

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Future Leader will participate in managing the student-athlete development, life skills programs and awards/recognition programs and assisting academic advisors and learning specialists within Academic Services.
  • The Future Leader will learn how to develop and implement programs designed to address the needs of IU student-athletes focused on academic, career, and personal development.
  • The Future Leader will be directly supervised and trained by upper level staff as he/she learns the field of student-athlete support services in athletics.
  • Responsible for assisting staff with student-athlete academic performance and communicating this performance to supervisor.
  • Provides direct support with developing, executing and evaluating comprehensive learning initiatives programs for student-athletes.

General Responsibilities

  • Assists with administrative needs related to the daily operations, planning, and implementation of various or multiple student services initiatives.
  • Provides assistance to student participants, stakeholders, faculty, and/or staff; acts as a resource by analyzing information, providing documentation, and preparing reports. Accurately maintains student records and databases.
  • Provides directions, support, and information to student organization representatives and other visitors to the department.
  • Assists with daily scheduling, training, and gathering of student feedback. May prepare and disseminate handouts, presentations, or other materials.
  • Assists with ordering or creation of promotional materials for student organizations or departmental needs.
  • May provide guidance to other Student Services Coordinators.
