McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.

This position will have a primary focus in the area of External Relations with a focus on digital and social media engagement as it relates to revenue generation and fan engagement.  Additional opportunities to gain experience in tickets, marketing, development, and communications.

This position is focused on enhancing the social media brand of Kent State Athletics and assisting in revenue generation and fan engagement through creative content (video, photography, and graphic design) for its 19 varsity sports programs. Additional opportunities to gain experience in tickets, marketing, development, and communications. etc.

Duration: August 2022 - June 2023

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

Social Media/Digital

  • Manage the Athletics Department’s social media efforts. Includes strategy, content development, graphics, and posting.
  • Review analytics and provide monthly reports
  • Assist with media buy strategy for digital engagement
  • Support effective brand management for varsity teams, and groups across the athletic department's digital platforms
  • Produce a wide range of professional-quality video, photo, and graphic artwork for print, web, and/or social media in a timely manner.
  • Assist in all marketing and promotional activities and initiatives for the department.
  • Assist in email communications related to external relations - ticketing, promotional events, etc.
  • Assist with all athletic ticketing services (group, season, and single tickets) and overall ticket revenue for the department.


  • Represents the department and its programs to various institutional divisions.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Must adhere to all Kent State University, MAC and NCAA rules and regulations.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Effective and flexible communication skills

Stipend: Up to $30,000 per year
