McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.

Duration: August 2022 - May 2023

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Establish and manage the day-to-day operations of a mentorship program connecting student-athletes to alumni
  • Help build and execute programming for Heritage months, Black Student-Athlete Summit, Women’s Initiative and more
  • Strategically plan programs to enhance education around DEI issues
  • Support the executive director in building diversity, equity and inclusion strategy for department
  • Assist in connecting teams with the DC community to elevate DEI conversations
  • Collaborate with department and campus partners to strengthen relationships
  • Engage with communications to keep website up to date and develop DEI social media plans
  • Administer DEI Calendar
  • Manage overall day to day operations/logistics to help department run more efficiently and effectively
  • Other duties as assigned
