Allied - Cytotechnologist - IL job in Elmhurst, IL
Cytotechnologists are responsible for identifying diagnostic material and referring cases to the pathologists appropriately. Evaluation and reporting of negative gynecological cases, evaluation, and interpretation of abnormal gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspiration cases.
Shift/Hours:
Day Shift: FT, Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Compensation:
Pay: Min $32.02 | Mid $40.05 | Max $48.07
Pay is based on years of experience.
Tuition Reimbursement: FT* - $4,000, PT - $2,000 (per 12 mo. period)
Requirements:
License: N/A
Certification: Cytotechnologist, CT (ASCP) certification
Experience: Recent Cytotechnology graduate or have recent Hospital-based experience for the cytology tech position.
Education: Bachelor's degree in either Cytotechnology, Biology, or Life Sciences. AND successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnology program.
Preferred:
PAP screening experience preferred, but new graduates are also welcome for cytology tech positions.
About the Unit:
Number of cases per day/month: 100 new PAP per day
Patient Population: Varies - Outpatient and some reference work
Common Diagnoses: Cancer found in the uterine cervix, lung, gastrointestinal tract or body cavities.
What type of personality works well in this department? Excellent technical and problem solving skills. A person who likes to work as a team member. Detail oriented, hard working with excellent customer service skills.
What opportunities for career progression and growth exist?: Ability to work with variety of cases and staying proficient with screening GYN and NON-GYN samples
