McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI): The purpose of the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is to provide minorities- known as MLI Future Leaders - a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship. Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to apply.
Duration: July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022 (9 months with UC, 3 months with Cincinnati Bell)
University of Cincinnati (first 9 months)
The Future Leader will have the opportunity to engage with staff in a wide variety of events, activities, and projects throughout the athletic department. The Future Leader will gain valuable insight into how each unit contributes to the overall success of our athletics department. In addition, the Future Leader will attend meetings with the Director of Athletics and other athletic administrators, observing the ways in which internal and external communication and decision-making impact the department. Throughout the nine months with UC Athletics, the Future Leader would also be working with the staff member assigned to department Diversity and Inclusion activities for staff, coaches, and Student-Athletes. This would include regular engagement with the Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA) and Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
Cincinnati Bell (last 3 months)
The program will provide the opportunity to help transform a strategic marketing initiative for the company. It will provide the opportunity to work in a team setting while developing and refining decision making, creative thinking, communication, and written skills. The role will also provide the necessary structure and opportunities to working effectively in a cross-functional environment.
